Fire Escape Violation?

"Dear Liz!
Yes! I'm very excited for the outcome of my recent court case against the City of Philadelphia!
As a result of our detailed, chronological history of our fire escape project together. We consistently updated the city in a timely way; proving actions are being taken to get this project to city code and to perfection. We were able to get a 60 day continuance for the fire escape project! Victory! Documentation beats conversation every time! We are very close to completion. I want to thank Warren and his Engineers, Liz, Mercedes and Anna for all their efforts over the last eleven months! It's been a great experience! I really appreciate the hard work and so does my client Jordan Tobias!
Yours Truly, "

Fire Escape Certification

I bet you didn't know that fire escape certification can be a breeze.

Ready to learn the essential steps?

First off, inspections usually kick off with a request from city officials also known as AHJ.

Ask your AHJ who is acceptable to inspect and certify fire escapes in that jurisdiction AND if a load Test is required.

Fire Escapes are Certified by Load Testing or by Other Evidence of Strength (Restoration) with an affidavit including a liability disclaimer.

Make sure your fire escape inspector is a registered architect, licensed professional engineer or a certified fire escape inspector.

Now, the inspection itself.

The pro will examine the entire fire escape, taking photos and documenting everything.

Expect a detailed report that covers all 25 components of the fire escape system.

A typical inspection runs between $500 and $1500 with certification if it passes the inspection.

Remember, no free inspections. Ironworkers or Welders cannot submit certifications.

Next, for older fire escapes, rust removal and internal connection repair are crucial.

Always follow local codes and get necessary permits for any work.

Finally, ensure your inspector, as well as any repair vendor, have the proper licenses and insurance.

And don't forget about recertification every five years as per the national code, especially for systems over 75 years old.

That's it.

Now you're ready to get your fire escape certified.

Stay safe and keep your buildings compliant.
